Our Anse la Roche Escapade
Setting off to see Grenada's sister island, Carriacou, turned out to be an adventure my partner and I and our friend could never have imagined. A few jewels stuck out among the multitude of events we had, making a lasting impression on our recollections.
Imagine yourself on a pristine, deserted beach with only a handful of other visitors. Forget about the uneven, bone-jarring dirt roads and the absence of any signposts; our endeavour the day before proved to be fruitless. Locals told us that most people didn't even know about the hiking path; instead, they were more interested in the well-liked Paradise Beach, which has lots of restaurants and lively beach bars. Our curiosity was further piqued by the attraction of the unknown, but we remained resolute.
As luck would have it, on the second day of our Carriacou adventure, our boat charted a route along the same hidden beach, Anse La Roche. We were mesmerized as soon as we stepped onto the pristine white sand, with its forest-like trees against an azure backdrop. A mere stop of a few minutes convinced us to return the next day, despite the logistical challenges of accommodation and transportation back to Grenada. The decision to extend was totally worthwhile!
We were whisked away at our preferred time the next day to have a remarkable culinary experience. The buffet lunch that awaited us, complete with fresh lobster, conch, fish, chicken, and an array of delectable sides, was beyond description. My taste receptors are buzzing just thinking about that feast. Not only is this exceptional experience ideal, but it's a must-do for families and couples alike. We even encountered a couple planning their dream wedding in that same location with catering from the bar and grill.
As the sun sets, this hidden gem transforms into a romantic haven, illuminated by the warm glow of tiki torches. Under the direction of the talented chef, his son, and a committed crew, the family-run Bar and Grill creates a memorable ambience that stays in your heart.
Anse La Roche isn't just a pretty beach; it's a protected sanctuary. The chef is an essential part of the marine ecology; he feeds the fish leftover lobster and abstains from serving beer and other beverages with corks to protect the newborn turtles and tortoises. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in safe glasses are available. Early mornings and late evenings are the ideal times to visit for people who are keen to see these charming creatures in their natural habitat. If you like snorkelling, an array of marine life awaits.
Anse La Roche is more than just a beach; it's an experience, a romantic symphony of food, nature, and deliciousness. Our unexpected finding ended up being the highlight of our trip to Carriacou. Whether you're seeking a secluded escape, a culinary experience, or a touch of Caribbean romance, Anse La Roche awaits, ready to etch its magic into your soul.
